Mother-In-Law!

She is on her way! And I am feeling a bit frantic! There's so much to be done! Groceries to get, guest beds to make, kitchens to scrub (okay, only one kitchen) ... I actually found myself scrubbing the inside of the medicine cabinet this morning - just in case she looks.

I really do love my mother-in-law. She's as sweet as cake, but golly, this sure is a rotten time for her to show up on our doorstep.

You see, and those of you out there who are trying to conceive will understand this, now is not a good time. Is there anything that dampens *the mood* quite like a mother-in-law? Did I mention that she's bringing Handsome's aunt too? And then his sister arrives Friday night ... and there's only ONE bathroom in our tiny home! And it's located in our bedroom! Eek!

Oh sigh and good grief, will I ever become pregnant at this rate? I'm thinking NO -- at least, not this month.

No time to think of that now though -- I'm off to scrub!

Jury Duty!

I wish, I wish that I could have carried a secret camera into the court room today, but as it is, this is the best that I can do ...

Okay, that just a picture of the toy my hubby is currently trying to sell on Ebay, but really, I felt like an AMAZON SUPERHERO (WonderWoman was always my favorite! Wasn't she yours?) on her way to rid the city of evil, to do her civic duty, to sit for hours and hours and hours on end inside the Hall of Justice.

The robed power of the courts never did call my name, and at the end of the day, I was excused - service completed. I never did get to use anything like a Lasso of Truth - bummer.

But, it really was a very interesting way to spend this sorta unique date in history. Besides having a front-row seat to view a complete cross section of folks who also call of our lovely city home, I had the unique opportunity to watch our courts system in action ... it was very interesting, although not exactly action packed.

I suppose that I should also mention the Agatha Christie book I read cover to cover while waiting. Yep, it was a really long, boring day. Un-action packed, you might say. I have never served jury duty before though, and so hopefully, this event will help me to remember this date ten years from now. More importantly, I wonder if I'll remember "who did it" ... in the Christie book ten years from now?  Doesn't matter too much, 'cause good ol' Hercule Poirot will remind me if I ever pick up the story again.  He's big on justice too - come to think of it.

Anyone else have an interesting/slightly out of the norm 09-09-09?

Did I mention that we, Handsome and I, also put our first ever offer on a dream, beach condo today too? Yep, it was a really BIG, long day. More about the real estate later...

Anyhoo, I'm one tired Supergirl - crime fighting started much too early this morning, and tomorrow, my mother-in-law arrives. I'm gonna need the strength of Hercules (the mythological one) to get this messy apartment cleaned and spritzed in time for her arrival.

So for now, I'll sign out knowing that justice has been done here.

Aebelskivers!

I can’t begin to explain the anxiety I created for myself while trying to decide what to write about in this post.

Do I post something weighty about infertility and that whole struggle? Or do I just start in about the day to day stuff I do - keeping myself busy - in order to make being childless more bearable?

I’m not sure why I wrestled with the decision for as long as I did – the choice is easy. I mean, who really wants to dwell continually about disappointment? I mean, really? So, pushing all that to one side and sticking a pin in it (for now), let’s just focus on escaping into the Santa Inez Valley with a dreamboat, and there you have it – we begin with powdered-sugar sprinkled, Danish, pancake balls!

To those people in the world who know how to make food look good in pictures, I take my hat off to you ... I mean, I would if I were wearing one. Food photos are a complete mystery to me. Still, here is the best picture I could manage of the aebelskivers we glumped down over the long weekend. Hope it doesn’t translate too grotesquely.

These particular aebelskibers were ... well, they were not exactly great, but they were warm, sweet, and unusual - perfect for a weekend get-away and try something different sort of a treat. If you ever find yourself roaming the streets of Solvang, California, I highly recommend that you shove yourself around one or two of the freshest.
Anyhoo, now that this first real post is done, I'm relieved! And looking forward to what tomorrow will bring for posting - postage? -posted-ness?

We’re off with a bang! I wonder how the Danes would say that?
